SOUND DEADENING AND INSULATION

Sound Deadening: Main areas of car

So, you now think about sound deadening of your car. Which zones to work with? Do you have to soundproof the only one zone or the entire car?  Let’s figure it all out

Here are the zones for sound deadening:sound insulation, sound deadening material, heat and noise insulation

Sure, the simplest and best way is to start with the doors

Door soundproofing gives pretty significant results.

What will happen after covering the doors?

  • Street noise will be partially reduced;
  • Car acoustics will become louder with greater bass;
  • Heat insulation of the interior will improve;
  • The car will be warmer in winter and cooler in summer;
  • Squeaks and unwanted noises in doors will disappear;
  • Door locking will be softer, sounding nicer.

However, having soundproofed the doors only, you will hear engine buzz when accelerating and other interior sounds (squeaks, suspension) better.
Do these particular sounds bother you?

Then it will be important to soundproof the floor, wheel arches and the firewall. This is the most important areas for sound deadening.

Together with the above benefits, this measure will ensure the following:

  • street and road noises will be reduced substantially;
  • engine buzz will be damped;
  • heat insulation will be significantly improved;
  • acoustics quality will be enhanced a bit more.

However, the remaining road noise coming from the trunk, and trunk panel squeaks will be heard heavily.
Is it important to you to get rid of these sounds as well?Main areas of car, soundproofing

Then soundproof the trunk and trunk lid

This will provide you with the following:

  • tire and road noise will be as low as possible;
  • better sound stereo, subwoofer in particular;
  • no interior squeaks;
  • the inside temperature will be as warm as possible in winter, and as cool as possible in summer.

What can roof soundproofing give?

The key benefit is full reduction of rain/hail noise.
Besides, you will improve heat- and sound insulation, as the roof is a quite large area.

What can hood soundproofing give?

In modern cars, hoods already have a sound insulation covering and require no additional measures. Should you have no such a covering, the soundproofing of this car part will give the following effect:

  • the engine will warm up faster and cool down slower in winter. This will make the inside climate more comfortable and warmer;
  • engine buzz heard inside and outside will be decreased a bit;
  • the hood will not rattle at high rpm (in older cars)

So, we have discussed all car parts that can be soundproofed and what can be the effects of such measures. It’s up to you whether to enhance the only one part or soundproof the entire car. But you should consider that the full-scale soundproofing will give a lot more effect and save your time and resources spent on repeated disassembling for working on other zones.

Another significant thing

  • the soundproofing should be done in 2 layers. The first one must be sound deadening material (e.g. Noico 2mm (80 mil)), the second — heat and noise insulation foam material (e.g. Noico Red 4mm (150 mil)).
  • For hood insulation, we recommend using sound deadener (as the 1st layer) in combination with “hood insulation” type of material (as the 2nd layer). Hood solution material is also needed to protect a bottom layer from excessive heat.

Only applied in two layers, the materials will allow for all the above effects.

Have great and comfortable rides!
